So personally, I use 1Password for almost everything, only using Microsoft’s app for MS stuff (and Duo for some Duo specific services). If youd rather use a different app see our articles for Authy, Duo or LastPass Authenticator. They also make it easy to export the secret key to use in other apps down the road if necessary.

For 1password's own login 2FA, I notice that it's required to have authenticator app setup before enrolling security key. 1Password not only will work perfectly fine for those other services/logins/etc., but will automatically paste them directly in for most sites. The Microsoft Authenticator, while also serving as a traditional/universal TOTP based MFA Authenticator app, is also tightly integrated with Microsoft services (e.g. Google Authenticator is really the baseline here, because nearly all sites that support 2FA support Googles app as well.
